In today's live stream, cordy, showed off what actually takes the mist aura. An item must need a particle effect for it to display. As an example a Pinion will have a strong mist aura, while a repeater will have just a bow or none that will be effected. Check it out it's really fascinating.

He also mentioned staves having an issue with mist aura.
